locks.jpgHUNTINGTON BEACH –About 40 children, including two boys, donated their hair today at the fourth annual Locks of Love event at Harbour View Elementary School.

Among those donating their ponytails was Caitlyn Nojiri, 10, whose mother Courteney Nojiri recently survived a rare form of cancer.

"At the time I felt helpless," said Caitlyn about her mother's cancer. "Now, I know that by helping someone, it will make me feel a little less helpless."

Fifth-grade students Katie Cason and Caitlyn O'Connell made their third hair donation to Locks of Love.

The event was sponsored by Girl Scout Troop #223, which has donated more than 100 inches of hair.

Locks of Love is a nonprofit group that provides wigs and hair pieces for children who have lost their hair.

HUNTINGTON BEACH – Locks of Love received tresses from 32 people including 28 girls, two boys, one male teacher and one parent at Harbour View Elementary School today.

The collective donations measured over 28 feet long.

Girl Scout Troop 223 organized the event and has collected donations for Locks of Love three times in the past four years.

It began when troop mother Isabelle O'Connell lost her grandfather-in-law to cancer and her daughter wanted to do something to help others.

"These are kids with character who know they are making a difference," O'Connell said.

Locks of Love is a nonprofit that collects hair and money and provides wigs for children with long-term medical hair loss.
